Zombie Dreams
I am so pleased every time I look into our
back patio area and see my little veggie garden and all the blooming flowers in
pots. I don’t do anything fancy – marigolds, geraniums, some impatiens, morning
glories, etc. Yet, it’s so delightful to see everything blooming and healthy. I
fertilized everything in the garden yesterday.
I have two Better Boy tomato plants – why
Better Boy? Because that’s what my mama always planted! No better reason than
that. I bought 3 plants the same day. One of them is vibrant and growing and
getting bushy. The other two are puny and have some yellowed leaves. Oh well,
if even one plant yields, it will probably keep us in tomatoes. I also have
some cherry tomatoes and a big yellow tomato plant, as Alesia loves them.
I looked at a seed packet today and realized
I did yet another incredibly stupid gardening thing. [See post about buying 1
okra plant and 1 watermelon plant!] I bought a seed packet, not wearing my
glasses, thinking it was radishes. Nope, I planted BEETS. I planted a number of
beets seeds and STILL didn’t read the package as I was planting them!
Perhaps, to make the farce complete, I
should go buy 1 of many other kinds of plants – 1 green bean, 1 spinach, 1
zucchini, etc. With any luck, on some magical far-off date this summer, we
might have enough for a modest stir fry mélange of veggies! Be still my heart.
Hey, at least I try.
I can’t remember if I mentioned this, but we
tried two different kinds of non-cow milk last week. I bought Silk vanilla soy
milk, and vanilla Rice Dream milk – both of which come highly recommended.
Alesia and Mike both HATED them. In fact, after drinking them they looked at my
with accusatory glares, like are you trying to poison us?!
Today, I bought some Lactaid milk – it’s
regular milk but they’ve just added the enzyme to help Alesia digest the milk
lactose. We will try it and see.
I do feel a personal sense of
accomplishment, because for two mornings now I have gotten Michael to eat
oatmeal in the morning. He needs the fiber. I buy instant, but plain, and I add
cinnamon and honey. He adds some sugar – I will have to monitor that. I think
that and some yogurt is a much better breakfast than frozen waffles. We’re
getting off the waffle kick. Know how I got him to TRY the oatmeal? I said “You
Uncle Bruce eats oatmeal every day, Michael. It’s healthy and tasty.”
Alesia dreams in epics. This morning, she
got up and took her Prevacid, then had to sit and wait 30 minutes before she
could eat. [Normally, she primps during that time.] So we had to listen to a
dream called Alesia Fights Zombies With A Cute Guy. I was a zombie in the
dream. Just when we thought she was through, we’d hear “Oh yeah, and THEN…” I
hate to say this because it sounds ugly, but I was so bored. It was like
listening to bubba name the 300 different ways to cook shrimp in Forrest Gump.
Aaaaagh!
By the end of the recitation, I felt like a
zombie.
Alesia said today in the car, "My nose
hurts!"
Me: "Is it out of joint?!"
Elva: "Did you stick it somewhere it's not supposed to be?"
Alesia: "No. It's right here!"
We laughed ourselves silly.

I'm laughing about having to listen to all the detail of the dream. When I was young I used to go to the movies and then come home and tell the whole story to my mother. She always listened very patiently. I'm not a patient person and when I think about it now, I think what a wonderful Mom she was to put up with all those long recaps of the movies.
