Mom had her first followup appointment with Dr. Mathers, the surgeon, today.
The idiot woman at the nursing home told me Mom had a 10:45 appointment and when we got there, there was no appointment. The office manager said the people at Manor Care screw up stuff like that all the time. She also failed to get me a wheelchair van until the last minute, failed to tell me I had to bring photo id for Mom, etc.
The doctor said Mom is healing fine. He said there will not probably be any real new bone growth for a few more weeks. She told him proudly that she had brushed her teeth herself this morning. (She didn’t want to feed herself tonight, though, when I took her some chili for dinner. She said she was tired.)
I asked the dr. when Mom could go home, and he said it was up to her and the rehab center dr. Mom said she really wants to come home. It broke my heart. I had to tell her I’m afraid for her to be home until she is steady on her feet and can do more for herself. I called Bruce on the way back to work and he agreed with me. She hates the food, they don’t always give her her meds on time, some of the nurses are rude. It’s not a great place. Some of the nurses are very good, though.
Dr. Mathers is going to see her back in a month, and do more x-rays.
I forgot to report a funny incident from yesterday. Bruce stayed with Mom until about 7:30, then we left together and walked downstairs to the cars and my car was blocked in by an ambulance. We had just seen them delivering someone into the facility so we knew there was no emergency. I griped for a minute about having to go get the driver to move the ambulance. Bruce calmly looked inside, saw the keys in the ignition, got in and moved the ambulance. I was shocked. He had just gotten out and started walking to his car when the driver got out there. I jumped in my car and left. I saw the driver looking at the ambulance with great puzzlement on his face. LOL!
Alesia put herself to bed tonight at 9:30, a rare thing indeed. She was tired I think because Julie had kept her at the pool for a couple of hours this afternoon.
She is getting brown as a nut, and her hair seems to be a bit lighter. She looks healthy and strong, thanks be to God. She is what I live for, now.
