It has been really difficult for the past week being without a computer. My friend Paul finally had a chance to come over tonight and fix it, bless him. Even though I could use Mother’s, I felt disconnected from the world.
Alesia has been very good all week. Tonight I did get irritated with her a few minutes ago when she raced through her prayers absent-mindedly. I told her she needed to be respectful to God when she prays - and she claimed to not understand the word. We looked it up in the dictionary. I showed her the Russian word and made her read the definition and she grudgingly said she understood. Then she threw the covers over her head and refused to look at me when I told her she needed to make sure she asked her teachers tomorrow when the next tests are in Science and Georgia Studies, and I would ask her tomorrow. There followed Lecture No. 457 on doing homework, being responsible, etc. She refused to look at me. I finished and looked at the bedcovers. I tried to hug her but she was having none of it. So I shrugged, got up, and said “Well, since you are acting so immature and ugly, no music tonight.” I walked out without turning on her boombox. I was so irritated, but I kept my temper.
Alesia announced today that she has ugly black hairs on her legs and wants to start shaving her legs. Nobody without a microscope could see anything but fine little blonde hairs on her legs, and that’s only on close examination. From 2 feet away, her legs appear smooth. However, I told her she could start shaving her legs. I guess it’s inevitable.
Alesia was very helpful this morning. We worked on unpacking boxes and cleaning out the garage. We only got partially done, but it looks a lot better out there. About 3 hours is my maximum before I get too tired to think any more. It’s mentally draining just trying to figure out what to do with everything. Most of it needs to be given to Goodwill.
We also rearranged some furniture. We took the glass-topped kitchen table and chairs and put them in the garage. We moved Grandpa Hasty’s antique table into the breakfast area and there’s a lot more room in that area. We then moved the tea cart into the family room, and shifted around some of the furniture. The room looks 10 times bigger and better. The new mantel we had made really dresses up the room, too, so it’s looking quite elegant now, but in a cozy way.
We still need to buy new chairs, because the old ones are not at all comfortable, but Mother and I decided to take our time and find chairs we both like and can live with. We looked at some yesterday at a discount furniture place, but none seemed just right.
Alesia’ friend Elena came over late this afternoon, and when I went to open the door, Coco went nuts. I grabbed her and held her as she wriggled frantically, because she adores Elena. Elena obligingly took her and cuddled her a moment before Coco jumped down. Then I looked down and realized Coco had peed on my clean shirt. She also peed on Elena a little bit. I offered to give her a clean shirt, but she shrugged it off. Coco always pees on the floor when she’s excited to see someone. Elena went to youth group at church with Alesia, and they had a good time. The youth ministry at All Saints is really good.
I should write more but I am sooooo tired. Tomorrow I will try and write more…
