Alesia had a great Gotcha Day little party. She was one happy girl, which did my heart good. We had so much to do all weekend, she didn’t really get to do anything fun.
Alesia’s little friend Maria came home from school with her. Maria was terrified of Coco, Mother reported, cowering and screaming when they came in the house - which was weird, until she said she was allergic to dogs. I just tried to keep Coco away from her. Coco doesn’t shed much at all so it shouldn’t have been an issue.
The little girls played upstairs most of the time. I picked up Elena on my way home from work, and so Alesia had 2 buddies and she was very happy.
We had LOTS of food, but most of it got eaten. The barbequed meatballs were terrific – I knew they would be, since we used ground steak from the Fresh Market. The dips were good, too, though of course Mom’s homemade shrimp dip was the big hit. Patrick’s cakes were excellent. Mom wants me to take the carrot cake to work tomorrow, but I will check with Alesia first, since it’s her cake.
Alesia’s ESL teacher, Miss Kerivan came, and we were glad to finally meet her. She looks a little older than me, and is very pretty, with lots of curly blonde hair. She was very nice. Alesia was thrilled to see her.
Earlier today, I sent the following e-mail, which I thought was droll:
I really really hate “corporatespeak” – business people who use their own silly
language that sounds so pretentious to me. Words and phrases like “push
back” or “drive sales” or “interface” etc. sound silly to me. I have always particularly hated hearing
someone say “I partnered with
so-and-so” - I don’t think “partner” should be used
as a verb.
However,
yesterday when Alesia and I were coming home from the store we were talking
about holidays. She said she didn’t really believe in the Easter Bunny. I hate
for her innocence to be totally destroyed already. To my shock, I opened my mouth and found myself saying “Granny and I partner with the Easter Bunny to make
sure you have a nice Easter.” Then I thought about it a moment and said “We partner with Santa, too. We help him with deliveries.” I almost said “We implement Santa’s gift initiatives” but I caught
myself in time. I can’t believe I've fallen so low...
