We’ve had a very nice, laid back Christmas.
Bruce finally made it home, about 2 yesterday afternoon. He had said Thursday he would see us Saturday morning. The usual behavior for him.
Bruce’s time was properly taken up with inspecting the house – he hadn’t seen all the improvements we’ve made in the last four months – and helping to place some of his presents to us. He hung a new full-length mirror for Mother, mounted a fire extinguisher in the kitchen for us, and helped out with some other small jobs.
Bruce got me an enormous “body pillow” for Christmas – I had sent him the link in an e-mail so he could order it for me. It looks like an enormous snake in the bed – no Freudian jokes, please. I had no idea it would be so huge. It took both me and Alesia about ten minutes to get the enormous pillowcase on it. Let’s hope it helps my constant insomnia.
Bruce and Alesia watched a televised “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” last night. The sight of them both sitting on the couch, mesmerized, was heartwarming. LOL.
Bruce spent a considerable amount of time throwing a softball to Alesia yesterday afternoon, and retrieving the hits. She hits really well. I don’t know why – we haven’t coached her hardly at all. I need to see if I can find her a softball team. She’s really good.
Alesia plays softball and soccer with the little girls across the street [Rosalie and Cecilia] fairly often. She played over there yesterday, and today Bruce went and played soccer and then softball with them. The girls’ father played too. I know he enjoys being around kids, and Rosalie and Cecilia are adorable little girls.
We opened presents this morning, and everyone got some nice things. Bruce gave mother several small things, but the big present was that he had refinished her toy chest that she had had as a little girl. My grandfather had built her the toy chest. It looks very nice in our family room.
Alesia got a lot of small things, since her clothes and new bed linens were the big presents, and she had already gotten those. She seemed very pleased with the calligraphy set and many books, and Bruce found her a mermaid doll. She got several pairs of earrings, too.
I gave Bruce an electric teakettle, and ordered one for Mother, too. We all like tea. Those things are so nice to have, too.
My cousin Lesleigh came over this afternoon and visited,
then we took Alesia to see the Narnia movie. She had seen it before. Lesleigh
and I both read the books as kids. I thought it was very impressive. The kids
look nothing like I pictured them, but oh well, moviemakers never get the
characters to look right. LOL.
All in all, a very nice holiday. So glad I'm off work tomorrow.
