I got my big Success Sharing bonus at work today - $171. Whoopee. That almost covers the costs from last weekend's buying binge for Alesia. What's so irritating is that Home Depot makes billions of dollars a year, pays it's executives more than the Sultan of Brunei, and pays the people like me - who really keep the company going - a pittance. I had to wear my apron to a little pep rally this morning just to get my lousy check.
Alesia was in a very good mood tonight when I got home, which surprised me. She had a lot of homework. She apparently zipped through it pretty quickly. I don't think she's being real careful and giving it her best effort, but that will change once I redirect her to more understandable work. She's zipping right along with the Kumon.
Below is a post I did for my Yahoo Single Moms group, just thought I'd share.
I am a member of NetFlix, and it has changed my life. I pay for 3 movies at a time, and I get them in the mail, watch them, and mail them back in the envelope provided. No more frustrating cruising around Blockbuster or worrying about late fees. They have a HUGE selection of films, too.
Thank God Alesia is as big a movie nut as me. :)
I am a serious movie-fanatic [though I can't stand most television]. Alesia is not allowed to watch TV on weeknights but if she is good she can watch part of a movie after dinner. Rarely do we get to watch a whole movie in one sitting unless it's a weekend.
I say all this because I want to propose a little exchange of information. I have "discovered" several small films that are very entertaining, and I want to mention them below. If you have any similar movies you like a lot but people rarely rent, please reply and tell us the titles. I can look them up.
I tend to like "chick flicks" that have good characters and dialogue, not so much action films - though I will watch them and there are some I really like, like Independence Day.
Anyway, here are my movies:
Truly Madly Deeply
British comedy about a woman whose husband dies, then comes back to
haunt her, moving in with his scruffy ghost pals who are annoying
The Boyfriend School [a/k/a Don't Tell Her It's Me]
Romantic comedy with Steve Guttenberg playing the brother of a romance
novelist whose sister gives him a "makeover" to woo a woman [bonus on
this one - it was filmed near Charleston]
Jack and Sarah
Another British romantic comedy, about a young father of a baby whose
wife dies, and he hires an American nanny.
Joe Versus the Volcano
This was made years ago and stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, in the
least-known effort together. It's very quirky but sweet and funny.
Being John Malkovitch
You probably know of this one. Very very weird, very funny. Stars John
Cusack, whom I adore.
