It has been an excellent day in most respects. [Coco has not felt well and has had diarrhea all day. We think it’s because she’s been licking the medicinal crème we put on her latest wound, so we put the cone back on her tonight to see if it would help stop the wound licking.]
Mother and I went to Office Depot while Alesia was at her Kumon tutoring this morning, and we each got file boxes for important papers. I am going to put all my adoption papers in labeled folders so I can keep up with everything. It really helped me when I adopted Alesia.
While at Office Depot, I noticed they had small computer desks on sale. Mother was sort of startled when I bought one for Matthew’s room. [We have decided to call him Matthew instead of Igor because we all like the name, and we’re hoping he will accept it.] I just knew it was the right thing to do to buy the desk. I want to get his room organized asap, even though we will want to change out the linens and personalize it when we know better what he likes.
I then talked to my friend Paul about getting a computer to go the little desk, for both Alesia and Matthew to use. I want them to have internet access but I am going to put all the parental controls on there that I can. I want Alesia to be able to use the computer when she gets out of school this summer. There is a website with all the grade level skills covered with cute exercises, games, and pictures, and she likes doing it. I think it helps her. She understands there just isn’t any space for the computer in her room.
After Kumon we dropped Alesia off at a local baseball field to see her friend Elena, whose little brothers had a game today. Mother and I had lunch at Chili’s, then came home. The Barrs dropped Alesia off about 3:30 She had not only been to the baseball game, but to Elena’s sister’s soccer game, too. That family is always on the go. I asked Alesia if she wanted to play soccer and the answer was a firm “NO.” LOL
Mother and I walked outside this afternoon to survey our little vegetable garden, and to my great delight, some of the seeds we planted last weekend are already sprouting! I don’t know if they are cucumbers or cantaloupes, but we shall see. We got some more planting done this afternoon. We started watermelon, Portulaca, and Zinnia seeds in little starter cups, and planted two regular pots of blue Morning Glories. We also planted some zinnias and daisies in the side yard.
I told Mom that if anybody had told me a couple of years ago that I would take great pleasure in planting and working in the yard, I would have said they were crazy. We have a yard service to do the yucky chores like mowing and blowing, but the fun planting chores somehow relax me. Our lanai is going to be so beautiful. We are going to put more pots of flowers out there and make it look more like a European terrace, and the white wicker chairs against the blue house look wonderful.
I found a Yahoo message board for Adoptive Parents of Children with Limb Differences. I am hoping I will get some good feedback and advice on parenting Matthew. The Single Moms group has been a real blessing the last couple of years.
Didn’t get much of the garage cleaned out, but I did at least get in all the boxes of music, and those are organized and put away. It feels like we’re more settled in, now that the music is on or near the piano – it’s part of my childhood. I even played the piano a bit today.
I also brought in a couple of boxes of books which I didn’t realize were out there. I’m hoping we can weed out and clean out a lot of the books sometime soon – we have a lot of old books there’s no need to keep. I am going to take one of the bookshelves out ot Matthew’s room so we need the space.
The garage will have to wait until next weekend for more intense cleaning. Tomorrow is packed full of activities…
