It felt so weird to be going to work this morning - I am out of practice. I managed to get up and shower and get Michael fed and dropped off at school - a miracle, since he's so poky in the morning. Alesia is great - she gets herself up and gets ready and fixes her own breakfast.
My commute was a mere 21 minutes, after I got thru the school traffic!
The new office is very small compared to the vastness of Home Depot, but that's OK. Two attorneys, one admin, and me. I am ready for small. The HD building with 5,000 people in it was exhausting. It was also mentally exhausting because the threat of being laid off was constantly hanging over my head.
The new office is friendly. I have my own office, and I am learning the computer programs pretty quickly.
I was even able to bill a couple of hours already, which was great. When you're paid by the hour you want to feel productive.
By contrast, when I worked for corporate legal departments, my first few days were excruciatingly boring - no computer access, nothing to do but read the employee handbook.
I took my lunch and had a nice healthy turkey sandwich on whole grain bread. I read a bit, made a phonecall and relaxed for a while before going back to work.
I was able to pick up Michael from school and come home, and do some things around here in record time. Getting home at 4:15 is so much better than fighting the traffic and arriving mentally exhausted at 6 or so.
Now I am exhausted! One chapter of Harry Potter and I am done for the day. Let's hope things continue to go well!
