What an insane day.
First, it was like a horror movie
with the rain and the flooding this morning. Our backyard was a lake. Mother
was rapidly becoming freaked out. I told her to just pray – this is when the
rubber meets the road, faith-wise. Either you believe in prayer or you don’t I
prayed hard, and I asked all my blog readers to pray. Within 15 minutes the
rain slacked off and the water started to recede!
Here’s another argument for the power
of prayer. Yesterday, I felt horrible all day. I just knew I was getting sick.
Felt like a sinus infection and a bad sore throat. I prayed HARD that I wouldn't get sick. At the moment I have no health insurance, although I'm working on that. I took it really easy, and
stuffed myself with vitamin C and Grapeseed Extract – a powerful herbal
antioxidant. Today, although still taking it pretty easy and taking my vitamin
C and Grapeseed Extract, I feel 100% better.
It was creepy all morning, watching the water
rise in the backyard, and the rain. We got almost 5 inches of rain in the last
24 hours! My little rain gauge was almost full.
I decided to make a pot of homemade
soup in the crockpot. It seemed like a soup sort of day. Then I made Mother and
I grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. I still wanted to bake, so I made Spiced
Pumpkin Bread. I love pumpkin bread, and it’s a terrific recipe.
When I picked up Michael from school
he was in a foul mood. He had a huge pimple on his nose. This morning before
school he couldn’t get his prosthesis to work – he has really outgrown it. This
afternoon, he said he messed up a quiz in Social Studies, and he screwed up and
did the wrong Science homework. He asked me if I would still take him to
Gamestop, since I had promised that if he did his Science, and I said I didn’t
know. I told him he HAS to start writing down his homework in his agenda, I
cannot do it for him.
We came in and Michael refused to
take the bandaid off his nose pimple. He wouldn’t eat. He wouldn’t sit down and
talk to us. He was just having an extreme low blood sugar meltdown. I could not
get him to cooperate, to eat something. I let him cool off in his room for a
while and tried again, but he was still obstinate. He just shut down. I didn’t
lose my temper, but he refused to do anything I said. I finally just started
crying. Only then would he agree to eat some soup. It was very upsetting to me.
I canceled a play date we had scheduled for tonight, as punishment for not
cooperating. There wasn’t much else I could do.
Once he ate a bowl of soup and drank
some water, he came around. I grabbed him and hugged him and told him he can't do that again. He'd had a stressful day at school, but he had to listen to me when I asked him to eat something. He's a very affectionate person, so he always accepts hugs, and if I can give him a hug he relaxes a bit.
Alesia went to a football game
tonight with some friends. It wasn’t at her school and her school wasn’t
playing. I am glad she went. I think it’s good to go to sporting events and see
what a huge bore they are, now hopefully she won’t ever want to go again. I
went to one game the whole time I was in high school, and that was enough. [NOTE: After I posted this, Alesia came home and said she had a wonderful time. The score was 42-0, which qualifies as a major butt whipping, but she still enjoyed the game. Hmmm... I fear I have a football fan on my hands, oh dear...]
Michael and I have had a pretty
pleasant evening. Tomorrow we will discuss his behavior some more, and
hopefully I can make him see reason. He has no self-confidence when it comes to
school, and he is having a hard time adjusting.
At least the back yard isn’t under water!
