I did a really stupid thing last night - chopped a hot pepper with my bare hands. Got that burny stuff on my hands, my face, in my eye - a huge nightmare. I was holding ice to my face, Nothing helped, couldn't get the capzaicin off my skin. It felt like somebody was holding a lit match to my skin.
Finally, Alesia looked on the internet and we found a couple of things that helped. First, I took cold milk and soaked a paper towel in it and wiped off everything burning. That helped a lot. The burning came back, though, so I took some olive oil and wiped it on my face, and that helped. Mother gave me 3 Benadryl, and those completely knocked me OUT. At 9:30 I fell into bed and told the kids not to be loud, and I passed OUT. I had barely gotten my teeth brushed.
The scary thing is, Michael wanted to EAT that nasty red pepper on his burrito [we made homemade burritos]. Right before dinner he told Alesia it was a sweet pepper and SHE should eat some! I quickly set her straight on that. She would've freaked out even more than I did.
In looking on the web to find a photo of the nasty pepper from last night, I came across this nifty site listing pepper varieties. I am pretty sure what I was dealing with was a Caribbean Red Habanero. On the site it says "this may be the hottest pepper in the world." Avoid that pepper unless you have a death wish...
This is what pure EVIL looks like...
Here's what my brother had to add:
"That's a mild version of what pepper spray does to folks.
