Another soggy, rainy day. Fortunately, it dried up enough for Michael to have tennis practices, which he needed. This weekend is supposed to be clear but cold – high’s in the 50’s or low 60’s. Here, that’s cold.
I talked to an old friend of mine this morning and he lost his job. I’ve lost count of the friend who are jobless, or now under-employed. I suppose technically I am, too, but I don’t think that way.
I try to avoid the political here, but I will just say this. We've had nearly a year of the new regime in Washington and I don't see things getting better. Hmmm.....
It’s been tough to stick to my eating plan all day, but I managed. I went by Honeybaked Ham after work and got some sliced ham and sliced turkey. Mother and I can snack on that, and the hunger is appeased. We're doing a low-carb plan. I find I get most tempted when I am bored. My only complex carbs today have been 1 slice of whole wheat bread and ½ cup of black beans with dinner, which isn’t too bad. I had a turkey sandwich for lunch, and sliced turkey for dinner. I am going to turn into a turkey! I had to avoid fruits and veggies due to an upset tummy.
I did get up this morning and walk, while watching a show on HGTV, Cash in the Attic. I like that show. Thank goodness there is something on at 7 a.m. which is reasonably entertaining.
I figured out, by looking at her Facebook page, that Alesia snuck around and got on the computer last night after she was supposed to be in bed. I confronted her about it today. She was on there today screwing around when she was supposed to be finishing her social studies Powerpoint. I thought there was Powerpoint on the computer and she told me no, after I was in for the evening. I told her if she’d just informed me earlier, I could’ve bought it and loaded it on there. I will buy it; I know the kids need to be able to do Powerpoints. It just makes me mad she didn’t tell me sooner.
I told her if I catch her sneaking on that computer again, she will lose all her computer privileges. That kind of behavior a few years ago crashed the kids’ computer, and so I disconnected the internet. I will do it again if necessary. She knows I don’t play.
I did not, I should note, yell and scream, or lose my temper. Therapy is a good investment.
On a brighter note, Alesia has all A’s and B’s on her progress report. However, I told her she has to get her average up to at least a 3.0, so she can get into college. She isn’t there just yet, due to some low grades her freshman year.
Michael is studying Geology now in Science, which is pretty interesting stuff. We were talking about diamonds yesterday, and I explained that a diamond is the hardest substance on earth, and Alesia told a funny story. She said in her science class last year a boy had on a big diamond ring, and he bragged it was a real diamond. The teacher asked to see it, and threw it on the floor, and it shattered. So it was glass. Alesia said everyone in class laughed.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
