I should have posted last night but it was a strange evening, as I was preoccupied with a family medical issue I can't blog about - not my immediate family, a cousin in another state.
I made creamed turnips and pork chops for dinner last night, and even Mother remarked how good the turnips were. Well the pork chops were good too - you simmer the chops in a cup of Dr. Pepper and a cup of ketchup. Sounds weird, I know, but very tasty. I got the recipe from the Tasty Kitchen website.
The turnips had to be boiled until soft, which was about 30 minutes, but then I sliced them an put them in a cheese sauce. I made a basic white sauce with butter and flour and milk, and dumped in cheddar cheese and a lot of onion powder, garlic powder, some salt and pepper. Very tasty. Turnips rock - much like potatoes, but a very nutritious veggie.
Michael is becoming more and more cocky, at 13. It's funny, though.
When he first got here he had never been taught how to dress appropriately, matching colors, etc. - of course he had never had hardly any clothes to choose from, so it was moot. Now he has tons of clothes.
The other day, he bounced downstairs and said to me, "Pink and grey go together, right?"
"Well, yes, usually," I replied, ever cautious. He won't wear anything pink so I wasn't sure what was up.
He grinned. "I knew it! I TOTALLY ROCK at colors!"
That's all the major news at the moment. Stay tuned.
