It was a fairly normal day, until I remembered something Alesia said last night while we were doing dishes. Something came up about the government, and she said she thought the word "government" referred to a person. She never really understood it was a concept, an abstraction. She IS a totally concrete thinker.
I emailed her social studies teacher, to clue him in that she needs help with any abstract concepts. She's taking Economics this year, and I cringe to think what she will make of all the abstractions there. Fortunately he is co-teaching that class. He said he's try to make sure she understood.
I couldn't handle Economics in high school. I think I made a C, which was a bad grade for me. I usually made A's and B's. Alesia is better at math, though, than me.
I was talking to Alesia on the way home, when I was in the car. I told her I was proud of her getting herself up in the morning. She said accusingly "I HEARD you outside my door, luring. I could hear you breathing." I started laughing. I laughed and laughed. It made her mad. "You WERE, you know you were luring!" I said "No, I was turning off the air conditioner and closing Michael's door." She again accused me of "luring" and I laughed some more.
When I got home, I explained the difference between the words "luring" and "lurking."
I ran across this cool story about a woman who is making a new dress every day out of a thrift store find. The story is here - http://green.yahoo.com/blog/guest_bloggers/60/turn-ugly-dresses-into-nice-ones-for-1.html - sorry about the cut and paste.
I cannot sew. I used to try. I made some fairly hideous looking sundresses when I was in college. Mother and I finally figured by the time we bought the fabric and everything, I could've just gone and bought a dress for just slightly more, and saved myself tremendous frustration. So I quit sewing. My grandmother was a wonderful seamstress but I didn't inherit that talent.
That's about all the news I know..
