We've had a lovely day. Lesleigh came over right after lunch and we all went to see True Grit. I have to admit, I didn't expect much. It was awesome, though. Jeff Bridges rocked, and the little actress who played Mattie was amazingly good.
Hard to imagine Jeff Bridges as anything other than a hottie, but he's doing well playing a grizzled old guy these days.
I saw the original when it came out in 1969. That was one of those classic films we saw as a family. Dad loved John Wayne. He would quote him often - "Fill your hand!" being a favorite.
This new version is much more like the book. It feels more literary. It also feels like you've time-traveled back to 1875 or so. People spoke more formally. The period costumes look incredible. It's not a pretty story but it's really compelling.
There is a lot of shooting, violence, blood and gore. Mike said right before bed tonight "Well, what happy family film are we going to see next year, hmm?!"
Bruce made the most awesome beef tenderloin ever tonight. It was an expensive piece of meat, but it was much more economical than taking everyone out for prime rib at a restaurant, which would've been $300 or more. We also had Mother's special lettuce/mushroom salad, french bread and homemade pecan pie. Yum. Who needs turkey?!
Here are some photos of the day. It started snowing late this afternoon and we have snow on the ground but not on the streets. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow - the high is supposed to be 34!
