Yesterday was a crazy day on a couple of different levels. The weather was very dramatic - tons of rain, and there were many homes damaged in Gwinnett County, which is just up the road from us. Our backyard became a sodden mess, but not a raging torrent like this time last year, thanks be to God.
I just looked outside and my backyard is DRY! Yay!
I finally had some activity on the job front. Nothing I want to report on now, but there are certainly a couple of possibilities out there and I will be pursuing them diligently. I have a job interview this afternoon. The whole job situation has been so scary. That's why I am trying to make cakes, and monetize the blog - just trying to pursue everything possible. Y'all keep praying though - nothing is done yet.
Michael had a writing assignment in Language Arts to write about something he really regretted, an instance where he hurt someone else. Both of us sat and thought for a minute, but nothing came to mind. I finally just wrote a note to his teacher and said "there's nothing there - he's a good boy." He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He never deliberately hurts anyone. It was a strange assignment. Fortunately there were other writing prompts in the same assignment, so hopefully it won't be an issue.
I had to ask for an accommodation for Michael yesterday, which is rare. The teachers at his middle school are not supposed to allow the kids to carry heavy backpacks from class to class. Michael likes to carry his folders in a small cloth backpack, but one teacher insisted he not do it. I emailed the school counselor and asked that he be given a break, since it's hard for him to carry a bunch of folders in his arms without them slipping out. She agreed, and notified all his teachers. He hates dropping things but it happens a bit more frequently than with two-handed kids, and it embarrasses him.
Alesia's job at the mall isn't giving her enough hours, so we spent some time yesterday running around to different businesses close to here so she could fill out applications. The perfume store said they wouldn't call her to work unless they needed her, which is a crappy way to treat someone. She's a hard worker. I hope something else works out for her soon. Y'all pray on that one too, please..
I made the most delicious pasta salad last night. I made some spiral pasta, and tossed it with chopped red pepper, chopped onion, a little mayo, a little parmesan, a lot of ranch dressing, onion powder, salt and pepper, and dill. The kids gobbled it down.
Since the rain has left us, the cold is here. The temp this morning is about 35 - WAY cold for Hot-Lanta. I saw that on the news this morning and told Michael. He had come downstairs wearing gym shorts and two tee shirts. "I'm not cold," he insisted. "It's less than 40, so you at least have to wear a jacket," I retorted. My rule is if it's under 40 when he's going to school, he has to wear a jacket or coat. I told him to go outside and put out the blue box [recycling] since today is pickup day for that. He came back in and said brightly "I think I'll wear my sweatpants today!" LOL

As an adoptive parent I am often asked stupid and/or insensitive questions [example: "Where's his REAL mother?!" - like I'm fake] and I cannot ever think of anything to reply. Malinda's blog about this is funny and you should read it.
Her blog is very well written and contains a lot of thought provoking posts. If you're at all interested in adoption, check out some of her other posts.
