OK, it was hard to get up and go to work. I wanted to be at home. I am excited about Christmas. Fortunately, things were slow at work.
There are only 4 people in my office and we take turns going to pick up food for lunch. I went today, to Chili's. There were two special parking places for people picking up food. I parked in one. I looked up. There was a sign saying something like "Chili's Parking Only - anyone else parking here will have their car crushed and melted down." I thought Dang, these people don't play! I knew I wasn't violating their rule, but I prayed I wouldn't be in the restaurant more than 10 minutes.
I went inside to get the order, and I did have to wait a while. There was nobody else in there but the kitchen was slow. While I waited, I ordered a strawberry lemonade, which sounded delicious. I took a sip. It had seeds in it. WTF?!? I was horrified. I have dental work. I love strawberry flavor, but I don't eat them due to the seeds.
I told the guy gathering up the food order that the seeds would make my dentures fall out.
You shoulda seen his face.
JK.
I told him I needed something else to drink. He brought be blackberry lemonade. No seeds. Dee-licious. Wow. That plus the southwestern egg rolls, that's some good eatin.'
I got to leave work early, which was great. The traffic was not too bad on the roads but around the shopping centers it was awful. I ran by Goodwill and found some coat hangars and pajama pants for Mike, plus a Christmas gift in like new condition. I won't say what it is in case the recipient reads my blog.
I made my chocolate pound cake recipe and divided it into 3 loaf pans. That worked into 3 nice Christmas gifts for various friends. I put a little almond flavoring and a few drops of coffee in the batter. Those two things make any chocolate item extra yummy, just fyi.
Michael instigated a ride tonight. We bundled her up and loaded Granny in the car, and rode around looking at Christmas lights, and listened to Christmas carols. That's one of our Christmas traditions. It costs almost nothing and some of our neighbors do fantastic light displays.
FUNNIES
Mike told me the other day he had had a nightmare the night before. He rarely dreams, so I was somewhat startled.
"What happened in the nightmare, buddy?"
"I was in a big parking lot and an old hobo lady was chasing me around with a knife, trying to kill me," he replied.
"Yikes," was all I could think to say.
"Yeah, then I realized, I had a chainsaw!"
I didn't ask for further details...
If you want to see a great song by Steve Martin check out this song, Atheists Ain't Got No Hymnals. It's hysterical. Youngsters don't probably remember but Steve is a fine banjo picker, as you can see here where he plays Foggy Mountain breakdown with some world-class musicians.
I've never been a huge bluegrass fan, but I looked up the Steep Canyon Rangers on YouTube and found several videos. They are excellent musicians and singers, a rare thing. I really like this one, Knob Creek. It's musically interesting and I love the intricate mandolin picking. There is something about that music that affects me, on a deep level.
I have a strong belief that the music of the fiddle, banjo and guitar bring up memories that are genetic. My people have listened to this music for generations.
I digressed.
I need to go to bed. Night y'all...
