Unlike most everyone else in the south, I am not a huge football fan. Never have been, never will be. Couldn't care less who wins the Sugar Bowl, or any other bowl. I am, however, a huge movie fan.
I hate it when everyone says "Oh that's a wonderful film!" and I go see it and it's not all that great. Hype kills the experience. However, I saw The King's Speech today and I have to admit, it's an amazing film. I couldn't see how they could drag out speech therapy to a two hour movie but they did, and there's never a dull moment. I was with my friends Steve and Melanie, and their 14 year old daughter, and she loved it. Of course, she's an exceptionally bright girl. Michael, the same age, didn't want to see it. He saw the new Narnia movie [Voyage of the Dawn Treader] instead, in 3-D.
I actually want to see the Narnia movie, too, but King's Speech was more important now, since I am trying to see most of the big nominated movies.
I am so glad King's Speech got so many Oscar nominations. However, I cannot imagine why Geoffrey Rush was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category. His role in King's Speech was a lead role. He was onscreen through most of the movie. Maybe the powers that be didn't put him in the same category as Colin Firth so they wouldn't sort of cancel each other out, which sometimes happens.
Anyway, I was all set to cheer for only True Grit and now I am torn. Next weekend I hope I can find time to go see The Fighter.
Michael stayed home from our usual Sunday afternoon Kroger run to work on a project for science about Food Poisoning. I helped him but he did most of the research. It's so nice to move from me doing most of the work to him doing most of the work himself, with me just guiding. In Kazakhstan, kids don't do educational projects like that, so the whole idea of a project was just bizarre to him.
Poor Alesia has been laid low with stomach flu. Ironic, since Mike and I were focused on food poisoning all afternoon. She was demonstrating all the symptoms, plus fever - very ironic. I hope she feels up to going to school tomorrow. I hate for her to miss.
I leave you with a photo of Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter in King's Speech. She was excellent with a pretty subtle part, not a showy part, and I am glad she was nominated. She got to wear some very cool hats, too.
