Isaac Newton stated in his Third Law that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I can say unequivocally that he was correct.
For every viewing of the Oscars, I will be a zombie the next day.
Look at Isaac here! Despite the nose that would cut a slice of bread, I bet, he was kind of a hottie. Lovely hair. Wasn't the Fig Newton named after him?!?
I digress.
I needed every moment of sleep last night but fate had other ideas.
At 12:27 last night we were rudely awakened by someone's car alarm going off down the street - but it sounded like it was right next door. Instantly, Alesia was pounding on my door. Mother was calling out to us. Lights came on. I knew the sound wasn't coming from my driveway and I wished only to go back to sleep. Mother wanted Alesia to verify where the sound was coming from, which she did.
I thought Michael had hopped out of bed and run downstairs to see about Mother.
When we determined the alarm wasn't from one of our cars, we headed back to bed. I was hollering "Michael! Go back to bed!" before I realized that Michael was not downstairs. His door was open. I heard a sleepy voice call out "Mom! I'm in here!" and I looked and there he was, a mound of boy under the two blankets he insists on sleeping underneath. I felt rather foolish.
I was also in awe of him being able to sleep through that racket.
I slept very badly after that.
After I got Michael off to school this morning, I checked on Mother and she was sound asleep, which was good. She still needs a lot of rest. It's less than a week since her surgery.
I wanted to remain downstairs where I could be near Mother, so I stretched out on the couch in the family room. I started to doze off.
I was awakened by a small pink tongue industriously licking my entire face. That continued for a while, despite me shooing her away. She kept coming back. I finally gave up. When Coco had thoroughly cleaned me up, including the ears, she got on the loveseat and curled up for the first of her daily 27 naps.
I later took a shower.
That proves once again who really runs our house.
She weighs 8 lbs. and hides Milk Bones in Mother's bed.
We had a pretty quiet day, with me going through the motions of functioning.
Mother's appetite is much better and she's definitely on the mend.
I looked at the job ads and sent off a couple of resumes. I sent a few emails. I tended to my virtual farm on Facebook. I made breakfast for Mother. I made lunch for Mother.I made some blueberry muffins for the kids for an afternoon snack. I had one muffin. Michael ate four.
When Michael came home and needed help with his homework, I had to switch my brain into the ON position and try to explain adverbs.
I remember studying adverbs and wishing I were smarter, because they are totally confusing.
Finally, I resorted to Lolly Lolly Lolly Get Your Averbs Here. I made Michael watch it three times. That's as close as we get to homeschooling around here.
"Watch the video and leave me alone!"
It was a real bonding moment.
Not.
Then I suddenly found myself fixing dinner and singing the Adverb song. I prefer the funky groove of Conjunction Junction.
Thank God for YouTube.
After dinner we watched Antiques Roadshow. That's because we both got upset by Food channel's program about desserts. There were no desserts in our house. We didn't have a Netflix movie. So the Roadshow was it. This is the phrase you hear about 5 times during every Roadshow viewing at my house:
"Dang! Why can't we ever find valuable stuff like dat?!"
So yes, I was in Zombieland today, but it was worth it to see the Oscars. I still think The King's Speech rocked. Here's a cool 60 Minutes about the film and Colin Firth. I urge you to watch it. It's really fascinating and remarkable how that film came to be.
Last night I kept telling Michael I WANT you to see The King's Speech! [He and Colton and Alesia saw TRON: Legacy instead. LOL] The big takeaway for him will be seeing someone who had a debilitating handicap and who overcame it and went on to fulfill an amazing role on the world's stage.
There's a good lesson for all of us in that, now that I think about it...
