Well, I have learned that there is yet another inanimate object that I like to yell at - the GPS. Michael and I used it for the first time to go to Staples this morning, and while it's a truly fascinating device, I don't need something saying "Turn right" three times.
I will share a secret here: I like to holler at the TV. Especially when watching the news. I pretty much have to watch it alone. That's why I prefer movies. I seldom yell at movies. When I do, it's likely to be something like -
"Oh really?? You HAD to insert a shot of some bare boobies in an otherwise OK movie?! Michael, hand me the remote!"
Now I like to holler at the GPS.
I took Michael and Bart and Colton to the skating rink this afternoon and we had the GPS on, to get accustomed to using it. So far I am only using it to go places I already know how to get to, for practice. I noticed coming home from Staples that if I took a wrong turn now and then, it would automatically correct the route. But today I am on the interstate and it kept saying "You will exit in ___ miles." Really? You've told me the exit number already, what do you think, I'm ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL?"
I got so annoyed, at one point I cussed a bit, I confess. I told the boys to keep it to themselves. When they stopped laughing they agreed.
I like going to the skating rink because I get more reading done.
Earplugs in, I sat in the skating rink and finished reading Tender At the Bone by Ruth Reichl. Good book, especially if you're a foodie. I think she writes really well. Mother didn't like the book as much but that's OK. I actually went ahead and ordered the sequel, Comfort Me With Apples. Reichl has an amazing ability to describe food, and she illustrates her memoir with incidents that are just graceful and yet touching and funny. Amazing writer.
I made a big pot of vegetable beef soup for dinner tonight. I cannot describe it poetically. All I did was brown up some ground beef and throw in veggies, mushrooms, garlic, onion powder, some red wine, soy sauce, Classico, etc. I am hoping it will be tasty.
You know the Apricot Brandy pound cake I made Saturday? I thought it turned out great. Bruce AND Lesleigh both said they didn't care for it. I am trying not to get seriously miffed about that. I didn't think the pecan pie I made was all that great but it got gobbled up.
Go figure.
Back to work tomorrow.
