I have made a pledge not to sit still for more than 30 minutes at a time, until my sciatica is gone. If I sit for longer than 30-35 minutes, it hurts.
I was better last week, then I had a relapse over the weekend.
I went to the chiropractor last night and we discussed how my life has to be for the next 1-2 weeks, to get back to normal. I would settle for reduced pain. So here is what I have to do:
Sit for no more than 30 minutes, then get up and walk for a few minutes.
No bending over. If something needs to be obtained from a low file drawer or the floor, I will try and get someone else to get it for me, or I will squat down. (I hate squatting.)
When I sit, I need a cushion behind me so my spine is curved, not straight against the back of the chair.
I need to do my therapy exercises every night, then lie on an ice pack for 30 minutes.
Yesterday, I sat with an ice pack on my back while I ate breakfast, and that made the drive to work much more bearable.
The hope is that if I can rest the area where there is likely a bulging disk, I can avoid having to do more medical intervention.
Last night I did everything he said, and iced my back a little while before bed, and I slept much better - almost 7.5 hours! Yay!
I hate having to adjust my entire life to sciatica, but I will do whatever I need to do to avoid this getting worse, or not getting better.
I told Michael last night that he is going to have to help me a lot more around the house. His response was to make a face. Typical teenager. He's a good kid though.
Below, he was opening a birthday gift at his friend Colton's house last Saturday.
His tee shirt is Deadmau5, a popular techno group. Looks like Mickey Mouse on drugs to me... LOL
