Yesterday was a really stressful day for a number of reasons, but at the end of the day, I came home and found Michael's school pictures waiting, and I was a happy camper when I saw this:
Michael spent about 4 hours yesterday helping out the parents at the elementary school who were doing a Fall Festival. The President of the PTSA for the elementary school send me a sweet note this morning, and it said, in part:
"Although it wasn't as busy of a volunteer assignment as I had anticipated, Michael was a huge help in making sure we were covered all night and in taking care of all the little extra things that came up all night including staying later than we'd originally asked him too when a parent asked for help. He helped clean everything up and made sure everything was in order. Instead of just leaving once his assignment was complete, he went the extra mile by making sure no one else needed anything before he left. We were so lucky to have him there. Thanks again!!!"
All the kids in Mike's school have to have a certain number of community service hours before they graduate, and Mike's already got 6 or 7.I think it's a terrific thing. Teens SHOULD help in their community, and it should be a lifetime habit.
I went to pick him up, and waited a good while in the car outside the school. I was so tickled to see all the little kids coming out. One little kindergarten cutie had on a pink tutu and a tiara! Another looked like a mini Snow White. So adorable.
Amazing how far Michael has come from this photo, made in Kazakhstan in 2006:
Y'all have a great weekend. Don't forget to buy candy for Halloween!
