I love soup. The cool fall weather is making me want to make a big pot of soup.
After ranting about my stupidly expensive grilled cheese sandwich the other day, I ended up back at the same bakery yesterday, because I had to eat a fast lunch and get to a meeting at work. So yesterday I asked for a cup of tomato basil soup.
I LOVE tomato basil soup. I used to buy it at La Madeleine, one of my fave restaurants years ago when I worked near one. [Yes, I know it's a chain restaurant but I still love it.] Their tomato basil soup is rich and creamy and wonderful. You can order it online, I just found out! Here's the link.
Yesterday's soup was, well, sad. It was tomato. It was pureed like baby food. There was no cream in it. There was no salt. It was by someone else's definition "healthy." I hated it. It did not deserve to be called "Tomato Basil Soup" - that implies yumminess.
I Googled tomato basil soup and found Ina Garten's recipe for roasted. I'm sure it's delicious. Not what I was looking for though.
I looked again and found La Madeleine's recipe. It contains a cup of cream! Duh! Be still my heart.I will be making that soon. Or possibly chili. Or Baked Potato Soup, another favorite...
