DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THAT ONE TIME, BEFORE FACEBOOK, WHEN WE ALL WENT OUTSIDE AND DID STUFF?
That was part of a funny email sent to me by Mom. Funny and scary at the same time.
Mike has friends over now and they sit around staring at their iPods or phones - all the time. I have to shout, or say something really weird, for them to look up. Sometimes I just say "Time to eat." Then there's a delay, and I repeat TIME TO EAT! and suddenly they hear me.
I have noticed that when one is staring at a small device in one's hand, the hearing is the first thing to go.
It never occurred to me that I'd have to call teenaged boys to dinner more than once, though.
I have had to tell my son more than once, he cannot use his iPod or text at the dinner table. No no no no no. Hell to the NO. We have an electronics-free mealtime and I enforce that rule.
Before I let Michael get an iPod, he assured me that he wouldn't walk around staring at the thing all the time. To be fair, he doesn't do it as much as his sister did, or some of his friends. It's still annoying though.
Michael and I were perusing the new iPod Touch 5G and I told him, "See, I'd rather give you this for Christmas than a longboard [skateboard] because you're not going to break your arm with this!"
Ah, the compromises I have to make...
