Not too many people read blogs on the weekend. My readership goes down a lot. Apparently those of you out there who read blogs like to read them on weekdays. Perhaps, like me, you're really busy on weekends.
Anyway, much to my surprise I only got one negative comment about yesterday's blog, and it started off saying she already skips reading my blog most days because she doesn't agree with my opinions.
Fine.
Don't read.
I DO NOT CARE.
I don't write because I am desperately seeking readers. I write because I need to write every day. It helps me to have perspective on my life. It's therapeutic for me.
If you want to vote for Obama, vote for him.
If you think multiple piercings and tattoos are terrific, get them. Write poems about them. Celebrate them in song and story. It's a free country.
If you don't believe in God, don't pray.Don't go to church. Don't read the bible.
If you want to stop reading The Crab Chronicles, stop. It's up to you.
I don't sell ads on here because I don't want to write a bland, safe blog that appeals to a huge audience. I am going to vent on here and it won't always be pretty.
You will likely not agree with everything I have to say.
Some days I will no doubt sound petty and whiny, even ridiculous, to some.
So here are some of my opinions on things, just so we're all on the same page. If you don't like my opinions, don't read my blog.
1. I am southern and I am proud of it. I value good manners very highly. I would never even consider living anywhere else. My ancestors have lived here for more than 200 years and this is my home. If you don't like southerners or you think we're all racist idiots, so be it. You're wrong. Oh, and BTW, calling me a cracker or a redneck doesn't bother me.
2. I am an independent when it comes to politics. I've voted for Democrats and I've voted for Republicans. I try to judge the person and ignore the party. After looking at Obama's dismal record on the economy, I decided to vote for Romney months ago, and nothing I've seen since has convinced me I am wrong.
I am solidly pro Romney not only based on what I read and see in the news media. I know an attorney whose brother knows Romney personally and feels he's a great candidate, and I respect that opinion. If I knew nothing else about him, I'd vote for him based on that personal recommendation. Oh, and BTW, the brother is gay and still likes and respects Romney.
Do I agree 100% with all of Romney's positions? No. I agree with more of his ideas than Obama's, however. Plus, we have had almost 4 years of Obama and we can look back on his record and have a good idea of the man and how he operates. With Romney, all we can go by is his life and actions thus far. He isn't perfect, but I say, let's give him a chance.
Even if you totally disagree with me, I urge you to GET OUT AND VOTE.
Remember this, too - we are not a dictatorship. Laws have to be passed in Congress.
3. I think people with a lot of piercings and tattoos have issues they need to deal with, with a therapist. One or two little tattoos or piercings? No big deal. Multiple ones? Yep, something is off. That said, I have friends who have multiple tats and holes in their bodies and I still like them and they like me, even knowing my aversion to their "body art."There's nothing wrong with seeing a therapist, either, and I don't meant to imply that's a bad thing. I've seen therapists at various times in my life and gotten a lot of help.
4. I believe in God and I have a very strong faith in God, but I try not to force my beliefs on others and I DO NOT ALIGN MYSELF WITH RIGHT WINGERS. For instance:
- I believe in a woman's legal right to have an abortion, even though I am strongly opposed to them.[I don't think Romney will get Roe v. Wade overturned, but if he did I wouldn't cry about it.]
- I believe in the separation of church and state. If you want your child to have a religious education send them to a religious school. Public schools have always been places of prayer, because individuals can pray anywhere at any time. Being led in prayer is not necessary in a public school.
- I believe gay people should have the right to marry, and lead their lives as they see fit, free from harm of any kind. I think they are born gay. It's not a "lifestyle choice." [and no, I do not think electing Romney will force every gay person in America back into the closet, or that he hates gay people.]
- I don't believe people are either "saved" or "not saved." I cannot fathom a loving God sending someone to hell if they happen to be raised by non-religious parents, or they just never encountered the messages of Jesus in their culture. I also don't like any religion that is intolerant of others.
- I believe in the message of Jesus, but I have my doubts about the PR aspects of the bible. Was he the "messiah"? Born of a virgin? Able to raise the dead and perform other miracles? I don't know. I don't think that's the point, though. The point is his message to mankind.
4. I change my mind about things all the time. You may think that's flighty and/or annoying, or it indicates mental instability. I think of it this way: I may be 50 years old but I still try to LEARN. I know a lot of folks who don't try to learn. They are usually boring and/or obnoxious. I don't want to be like that.
Having said that, if you think leaving comments on here telling me I'm wrong and/or stupid or any other negative thing is going to change my mind about anything, you're wrong.
5. I try to be a good mother but I make mistakes all.the.time. I have a lot of regrets about a lot of things I've done as a parent. BUT, going back to 4 - I try to learn. Michael said last night I was fussing at him because of something that wasn't his fault, namely the behavior of one of my friends, and he was right. I felt awful after he said that. I remembered countless times my parents were stressed out over something not my fault and took it out on me. I told him I was sorry. I have to forgive myself because I am human. I am going to mess up. The only thing to do is try to apologize, make amends if possible, and MOVE ON.
6. I am proud to be an American and no matter who is president, that won't change. I live in the greatest country on earth. My ancestors have fought and risked their lives for this country countless times because it was the right thing to do, and because we love America. No matter who is President, I will always be proud to be American.
7. I am pro-adoption and I encourage anyone who wants a child to consider adoption. It's not a poor second choice to having a biological child. It's a loving, amazing, terrific choice. Nobody in this country should give up being a parent if they are told by a doctor they can't reproduce biologically. There are so many options to parenthood. AND YES, YOU CAN LOVE AN ADOPTED CHILD JUST AS MUCH AS A CHILD THAT CAME FROM YOUR BODY!
There's a lot more I could say, but I will close on that note. If you're wondering about yesterday, I did a lot of errands and I saw the movie Argo, which was excellent.
