This day has turned out unexpectedly gorgeous, proving once again that weather forecasting is not an exact science. It was supposed to be rainy all day.
Yesterday we got more than FOUR INCHES of rain in ONE day. Yikes. It never stopped raining. I thought, one more day of this and we are going to mildew.
Tonight there is a 60% chance of showers. That's OK with me. I put in about 6 squash plants, 10 cucumbers, and 6 tomato plants in the side garden this afternoon.
Fruit is also coming along. The back patio is filled with pots of strawberry plants, with tiny strawberries. The apple tree in my backyard is filled with apples the size of marbles. Last year there were TONS of green apples. They were edible. I made homemade applesauce.
I also planted 3 cantaloupe seedings, but I am trying not to get my hopes up that they will live.I never seem to have any luck with melons, and I love them.
Gardening is very exciting to me. Nobody else gets too excited [except possibly Mother, at the thought of homegrown tomato sandwiches] but I like to grow things we can eat.
I have a bunch of pepper plant seedlings but they are tiny, so far. I may not be able to resist the temptation to go to Home Depot and buy some bigger seedlings.
I try to remember to say a prayer every time I plant a seedling.

One of my cousins posted about an upcoming trip to the beach. I have a serious case of Beach Envy. I found some photos of our last beach trip, our freezing cold weekend on Isle of Palms last year. Still, the views make me nostalgic:
