Michael was so disappointed to wake up this morning and find there was no snow on the ground. None. Last time we had a decent snow was February 2011.
Nope, today was nada. [photo above was made in 2011]
Michael had an appointment at Children's to get his prosthetic fixed, and we saw some cute snow flurries on I-285, but nothing to get excited about.
However, it was incredibly cold. Highs in the low 20's.
I know all my friends up north and out in places like Montana and Colorado are snickering about us whiners here in the south. So let me clarify. Y'all are USED TO that freezing cold crappy weather. We aren't.
We don't have snowplows. We get maybe one now a season. Some years there is no snow whatsoever. We don't have mudrooms filled with mittens and highly insulated Michelin-man coats and boots. Our "winter" is lows in the upper 30's and highs in the mid 50's. We can get away with jackets or even just big sweaters, most of the time.
Fortunately, Mom gave me a lovely coat that's quite toasty, and Michael has a nice insulated coat given to him by Uncle Bruce last year. We are fine.
Mike and I went to the movies this afternoon and saw foolish teenaged boys wearing simply hoodies and jeans. Wow. Holy cold and flu season, Batman.
Even Lola didn't linger outside. Michael took her out tonight after it was dark and she tee teed and came back in in record time.
BTW, we saw Anchorman II. Not terribly funny or original. I wanted to slap Ron Burgundy in every scene. The spoofing of CNN was nice. They basically said CNN took real news and made it Infotainment, which is probably true. I remember when I was a kid, the news was serious. Not so much now. Ratings and "feel good" stories started getting popular in the 80's and now all news is silly. Real news get 2% of the broadcast and fluff gets the rest of the time.
Anyway, excuse me, I'm off the soapbox now...
After the movie, I came home and tried not to freeze here at the computer. I'm regretting that whole "putting my desk by the window" thing I dreamed up in 2005 when we moved in...
I will say this: we had a great dinner. I made beef teriyaki stir fry, with Jasmine rice, broccoli, and ground beef in Teriyaki Sauce. Mom finds it easier to chew ground beef than marinated flank steak, which is what you generally get in Asian restaurants.
I am a grownup now, eating broccoli. I used to say my home was a "broccoli-free zone" but now I've made peace with it.
Lola likes to try and eat my dinner out from under me.
Ah, life with Lola is never dull...
Michael, meanwhile, has a day off school again tomorrow, due to the cold temps - lows down to 8 tonight!
Y'all stay warm...
