I am fixing to go downstairs and put together a crockpot of chili, because right after my regular job tonight I have a will signing. A pot of chili means Mom and Michael can eat when they are ready.
So I thought I'd take a minute to talk about chili.
I used to not like chili. I didn't even understand why ANYBODY liked chili. I didn't like my mom's chili, and yet everyone else LOVED her chili.
Finally, I realized that I could make my own chili, and make it exactly the way it tasted good to ME.
Any chili I make benefits from these beans. Nothing is better than these.
I always use ground sirloin in my chili. You can use whatever you like but I prefer beef. I also use 1 or 2 cans of Bush's chili beans.
So often people use white beans or red beans. They are TOUGH. Those beans are why I was a chili hater for so many years.
I also use canned tomatoes and a can of Rotel if possible. Sometimes I brown up fresh peppers.
I also try to brown up an entire onion and use it. To me, the peppers and onion make it a one dish meal.
If you use a crock pot, it works great. All the flavors meld. Plus, it makes life easier. I LOVE my crock pot.
We like Fritos with our chili, and cheese. Only regular Fritos though.
I urge you to make chili the way your family likes it because.... well, this is America. However, USE BUSH'S BEANS.
I don't work for Bush's Beans; I just love their products. I once started putting together a pot of chili and realized I didn't have any Bush's chili beans, so I used their baked beans and added some extra tabasco to cut the sweetness.
SCORE! nobody knew the difference.
Go and make some chili today.
Here endeth the lesson.
