The past 24 hours have been all about automobiles!
As I blogged about recently, Michael's Mazda [my old car] is toast. I talked to several mechanics about it last week and all agreed the work needed would be $1,400-1,800. I was not surprised.
However, that left the issue of Michael needing reliable transportation. I took him back and forth to school [40 minutes round trip] and I don't mind doing that, but it's not exactly economical.
Michael spent a lot of time looking at cheap cars on Craigslist. That gave me the willies. There are all kinds of scams out there.
Once he realized the magnitude of the issues with the Mazda, last week, Mike went into a period of mourning. That is the only way to described it. He loved the Mazda. He loved having the freedom to go places on his own.
One of my friends saw my post on Facebook about our car woes, and called me. Her husband [who had just gotten a new car] was looking to sell his Honda he had been driving for years, and he gave me an incredible deal. It's a 1996 Honda Accord and it is in terrific condition, and immaculately clean. All the repair records are at a repair shop 5 minutes from my house. The car even has a terrific stereo.
I had been praying about the car situation, and this was an answer to prayers.
Michael is thrilled, needless to say. After the first time he drove it, he came in the house and said "It is really nice to drive a car that runs right and has AIR CONDITIONING!" Poor baby. All summer he has sweated through his shirts every day driving in the heat with no air conditioning.
I have sweated all summer, worrying about him. I knew there were issues with the Mazda, and the air conditioning situation meant I never wanted to ride in that car.
So today I got the insurance in place, the new tag, etc. and it's good to go.
Michael actually paid for the car himself. Thank goodness he has been working as a lifeguard.
I must mention here that I didn't go to the DMV office where I normally go. I went to a small satellite office which is actually closer to home. I went this morning before it got too hot and I was in and out in 10 minutes. The clerk was nice! Hallelujah!
I am so tickled that Mike has a car, it runs great, and he can probably drive it another couple of years, at least.
I feel incredibly blessed to have such wonderful friends, and to know my boy is in a decent vehicle.
Sometimes I get blue because of my work situation being so precarious and finances being tight, but I remind myself all the time that God always looks out for us. He really does.
