To all my regular readers - sorry for not posting more lately. Life sometimes gets in the way of blogging, although I have been writing.
For instance I did a post over at the Atlanta Area Mom's blog, Ten Tips to Get Your Child to Eat. Should have titled it "to get your child to eat WELL" but so be it. I am sure there are moms out there who will find my advice intimidating. For instance I recommend purging your house of junk food and learning how to cook, two things many folks simply won't do. I also think giving your child a bunch of choices and sitting there while they make up their mind is ridiculous. Give them their food and tell them to eat it or leave the table hungry. Period. My mother used to tell me I could eat what she fixed or make myself a peanut butter sandwich.
I guess I am too old school. I have taken some criticism for it.
Then again, maybe I am not old school enough in some areas. Plus, each child is different. So all parents have to listen to a lot of advice and then filter it according to what works for their child and his/her personality.
I also got a link to promote an anthology that will soon feature one of my essays, Our Day of Passing. This is exciting.
The past week or so has been filled with drama. I had several days of feeling really awful with a stomach bug over the past weekend. Yesterday was the first day in a while I felt fairly good all day.
Michael is weighing school options and trying to decide what to do. Since the Gateway program is being discontinued at his school and he doesn't want to return to high school next year, it's looking like he's going to go ahead and take the GED tests and just try to pass them and go that route. I was talking to his counselor this morning and he said there are some scholarships Michael might qualify for that are need based rather than academic and so the GED won't ruin all scholarship chances. I didn't know that. Good to know.
Right now Michael just wants to work, he thinks. He has some maturing to do when it comes to school, although in other ways he is very mature. Intellectually, he needs constant stimulation, which is the hallmark of high intelligence. I just wish he could take college classes that had the fun factor of x-box games...
I am working a job that I can do from home, although the hours are not as plentiful as I'd like. Still, I am grateful for a chance to work from home. There's a lot to be said for working in pajamas and being able to take breaks and go walk Lola around in the fresh air and sunshine. Plus, it enables me to take better care of Mom. I can walk downstairs if she needs me rather than try to get in the car and drive home.
I truly think that in the future most of us will work from home. Most work is done on computers. Most of us have computers at home. I'd love to see most office buildings renovated to provide low cost housing, with gardens on the roofs.

My cousin Mark Embry went over to Gibbs Gardens recently and took a boatload of great photos. Spring is well underway in North Georgia.
