A new friend of mine who is still getting to know me said something to me the other day that I found so funny I was tempted to giggle, but I didn't. I knew the comment was well-intentioned, not meant to be mean.
"You know, it's important not to be too sedentery. You need to get up and move around, get some exercise."
He was worrying about me recuperating from my surgery a couple of months ago, pushing myself a bit to get back up to my former energy level. I am keenly aware of the need to get my energy back, trust me.
I thought of that this morning at 7:01 when Lola woke me up from a sound sleep and demanded to go outside.
I had gone to bed at a reasonable hour, then awakened at 4 a.m. because Michael was having stomach issues. I was up a while with him.
So I went ahead and got dressed and took Lola for a 25 minute walk at 7:15 this morning. Not many of my neighbors were out and about that time of day on a Saturday. Hmm... I remember years ago when I would sometimes sleep in on a Saturday..
Then I came home and watered all the veggie gardens, flowers, and potted plants in my yard and on both patios. That takes a while. My zinnias are finally blooming. I also watered the geraniums around the mailbox. We are having our typical hot hot July days with highs in the mid 90's, so I am trying to get everything watered during the cool mornings when it's only about 75 or 80.
I came in and folded a load of laundry and put another load in the dryer.
By about 8:15 I was helping Mother get dressed. She wasn't feeling great, so I made her breakfast [eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, juice] and took it to her in her room. Then I ate some eggs.
Next, I straightened up the family room a bit, and the kitchen, and pulled out the cubed steak and salted it. [Just FYI, salting beef and letting it come to room temp before you cook it makes it more tender.]
I came upstairs and dusted and straightened Alesia's room. Michael likes to put his clean clothes in there rather than put them away in his own room. I expect when Alesia gets here later today she will have some choice words for him about that, which I will heartily endorse. I also scrubbed down the bathroom.
It's now 10:05.
In a minute, I am going to pay a few bills and throw on an old shirt because fixing country fried steak [Alesia's favorite] is messy. Then I will go downstairs and fix dinner. That means frying up the cube steak, making gravy, and putting it in the crock pot to slow cook all day until it's falling apart.
I need to vacuum the family room before lunch, too.
Then I will fix Mother's lunch and take it to her, finish the laundry and put it away, and grab a shower. That will be around 12:30. Alesia said she would be here "around lunchtime."
After she gets here, sometime this afternoon, I am going to make a pound cake, which is her favorite.
Sometime late in the afternoon I will likely put in a couple of hours working on an assignment I got yesterday. Then I will finish fixing dinner - green beans and bisquits.
So yeah, I guess you could accuse me of being sedentery, but you'd be wrong, my friend. Even though I am doing a little more than usual, it's not unlike many mornings.
Ironically, when I am doing my paid "work from home" it's far less tiring than my unpaid work around here..
