Michael is so grown up sometimes, and other times, he's a huge overgrown baby. He pouted because I wouldn't carry him upstairs earlier this afternoon. That was after he refused to eat the lovely omelet I made him for lunch. Some days I wonder why I bother.
When I was a child, it would have never occurred to me to disobey or disrespect either one of my parents. They were playful, but only up to a point.
I was still calling them M'am and Sir when I was 19.
Looking at this photo, I recalled several things. I was about 5 or 6 here.
I always had to dress up to go to school. Saddle oxford shoes were worn every day. I wore dresses or skirts, as pants weren't allowed. I couldn't wear pants until 6th grade, I don't think..
I liked to carry a purse, even at the age of 6.
My mother never left the house to go anywhere [except maybe a quick dash to the curb market or the vet] without wearing a dress, skirt, hose, girdle, and often a hat and gloves, when I was small.
One didn't just slop around. Not in public.
Michael went to the office supply place with me last week wearing pajama bottoms and a tank top, his hair sticking up every which way. Arguing about it was useless.
I heard a singer on the Today show this morning saying she didn't like to wear clothes that were too revealing. Good for you Honey! I wanted to crow. Too many of these young girls [Miley Cyrus] and even middle aged women [Jennifer Lopez] think it's OK to run around in public showing their breasts and almost their hoo-has and they think THAT IS OK. Dang.
The world has not necessarily changed for the better, in my opinion.
I am the first one to applaud the fact that pantyhose is not worn much any more, and I rarely wear makeup. However, sometimes one really needs to look appropriate, and I will never think looking like a prostitute is appropriate. Call me an old fuddy duddy. I don't care.
Lola runs around nekkid all the time, but she is just hard to fit. We'd like to put her in some cute clothes...
